Project 1 - Traditional Techniques

This page demonstrates the use of photography and image processing to form anaglyphs, combining both physiological and physical depth cues.
Retinal image size, Linear perspective, Interposition, Aerial perspective, Textural gradient, (Motion parallax), and Depth of field are all of the physical depth cues. Motion Parallax however does not come into play simply because the camera is not moving, therefore still images do not hold this effect.
Retinal image size - can be defined as the difference in distance between objects, where your eye percieves objects smaller that are farther away, and closer imagea appear larger.
Linear Perspective - objects diminish in size as they are farther away, such as parallel railroad tracks.
Interposition - objects in front of other objects produce a depth cue.
Aerial perspective - is atmosphere, fog or haze that can produce the effect of an object being farther away.
Textural gradient - when looking at grass in a photo you can see the individual blades in the foreground but as the grass recedes back into the landscape, you no longer see so much texture.
Motion parallax - When driving the guardrails and highway median shrubs move much faster than the mountain range in the distance
Depth of field - the distance in front of and beyond the subject that appears to be in focus.

These are all represented in the following images, and are presented in my opinion of effectiveness. Please click on images for higher-res jpeg.
